At Ready Set Grow Preschool of Long Island, we encourage our children to eat healthy and maintain proper hygiene. Dental hygiene is important to our overall health. It is imperative to teach children at an early age the importance of taking care of their teeth.
Every year we have a dental hygienist that comes to visit our school. Ms. Vicky brings creative props to show the children how to take care of their teeth. Some of the props include a giant mouth, tooth brushes, floss and mouth wash. All of these props make the presentation more visual, which creates excitement and engagement with all of the children. Last time she came to visit, she brought along her dinosaur and asked the children for some help. The children took turns teaching the dinosaur proper brushing techniques. It was cute and the children really enjoyed helping teach the dinosaur. Ms. Vicky always comes to visit in her work outfit and the children always enjoy her presentations. During Ms. Vicky’s presentations, she teaches the children the proper foods to eat and which food to avoid. Ms. Vicky also informs the children how to properly floss, in order to promote optimal dental health. Each child always goes home with a new tooth brush, toothpaste and floss.
At Ready Set Grow Preschool, we provide multiple activities and lessons promoting good hygiene. Getting started early with the proper hygiene, helps children maintain healthy habits. Other dentist activities we provide children include, explaining what happens at the dentist and what to expect. Some other ideas for tooth brush lessons are using art to painting teeth, playing dentist songs and tooth puppet shows. Around preschool most children start losing teeth, this can be scary if they’re not sure why. We help children learn that losing a tooth is normal and a new one will soon be on
